Coffee makers are actually very versatile and surprisingly multifunctional- all you need is a bit of imagination! We have come up with ten things a coffee maker can do. You will be flabbergasted! Read on and get inspired to use your coffee maker for other wonderful things besides making your favorite cup of coffee!
*10 Things a Coffee Maker Can Do*
Maybe you did not know this, but your coffee maker is lean and means machine! First of all, it will brighten up every grey and dull morning. Is there anything more cheering than a cup of your favorite fresh-brewed coffee.
Sometimes coffee can really seem like a life-savior and is more than enough to satisfy your needs, but your coffee maker has a few more tricks up its sleeves that come very handy at times Most of the things your coffee maker can do have to do with cooking, after all, it is a kitchen appliance.
What makes the coffee maker so „capable“? Well, it is the hot plate every such machine is equipped with. This heat plate serves to heat the water up to the temperature of approximately 200 degrees F and then keep the fresh-brewed coffee at a consistent temperature of around 165 degrees F. This hot plate can be used to cook numerous other things as well.
For example, tea or hot chocolate can be easily made in your coffee maker, but that is kind of obvious and we will thus not dwell on that subject much. There are other things to cook with the coffee maker that you probably did not consider, and we have made a list of top ten things a coffee maker can do for you to jot down and use when needed.
1. Make Delicious Pancakes
What is a better way to start your day than having a good-old cup of coffee and delicious pancakes for breakfast? Such a routine will give you enough energy to last through any day.
The good news is that you can make both of these things using only your coffee maker. How so? Well that is thanks to the already-mentioned hot plate.
The procedure is pretty simple. Prepare the batter for your pancakes as you normally do. Next, cover the hot plate with a non-stick foil and use it to cook a bunch of even and perfectly round pancakes. The pancakes will taste as usual, and you can use the usual toppings as well. You can also use the hot-plate to heat up some strawberries and blueberries and create a perfect sauce for your pancakes.
2. Cook A Healthy Bowl Of Soup
If you are a student living in a dorm room, being able to cook simple dishes such as above-mentioned pancakes or a bowl of your favorite soup is precious. Owning a coffee maker will allow you to do exactly that.
We will not bother you with recipes for soup, you probably already know how to cook it- most of the people do as those are the basics of cooking. As you can assume you use the coffee pot to cook the soup (place all the ingredients and turn the heat on!), so we will just warn you to arm yourself with patience as the process can take up to four hours.
You can also make some garlic bread to pair it up with the soup. To do that, just toast the bread on the hot plate and then serve it warm.
3. Cook The Hardboiled/Scrambled Eggs
We bet that this is another thing you do not need our recipe for. Even a child can boil or cook an egg. It is maybe unusual to use a coffee maker for this purpose, but it does not make the actual procedure any more complicated.
Namely, to cook the hardboiled eggs, you should first place them in the coffee pot. Next, let the water run through a whole brew cycle (the filter) and then wait for around eight minutes or so. You will need around three cups of water.
If the water does not seem hot enough after the first cycle, pour it back into the reservoir and run it through a second cycle as that will secure the needed temperature.
This is a slow process as well (soup is no exception), and you will need to leave the eggs in this hot bath for approximately half an hour, or even more if you love your eggs very hard. Three eggs are a maximum that can be cooked at once in this manner.
As a sub-title suggests, you can make scrambled eggs too. Just use the hot plate as a small stove-top burner and do everything else as usual!
4. Prepare The Fondue For Your Party
Your coffee maker can be used to make some delicious desserts too- chocolate fondue is a perfect example of that. The fact that the chocolate you heat in the coffee pot will take a bit of time is actually beneficial as there is no risk of burning it.
Start by heating one cup of heavy cream on the hot plate. This usually takes around quarter of an hour. Add the chocolate and allow it to melt. You can even use the coffee maker to keep the fondue warm for until it is time for dessert! It is quite convenient.
Finally, serve your perfectly warm fondue to your guest together with marshmallows and dipping fruit- we are already mouthwatering, and we bet you are too.
5. Make Low-calorie Oatmeal Breakfast
Preparing oatmeal in your coffee maker will allow for yet another simple and healthy breakfast. It is quite easy- add the instant oatmeal, and jam or honey (or both) into the coffee pot. Next, run about ten ounces of water through the filter.
Replace the honey and jam with some vanilla and cinnamon for the entirely different taste! You can also add a bag of your favorite herbal tea to add some flavor, without adding any unwanted calories.
6. Steam The Veggies
Most of the coffee makers come with a basket that serves for holding the filter and coffee grounds. This basket is ideal for steaming your favorite, vitamin-bursting veggies too. We have tried (and succeeded) to steam some broccoli in this manner, but there are numerous other options limited only by your imagination, and personal taste of course.
7. Bake Delicious-chocolaticious Cupcakes
Baking with your coffee maker really sounds surreal, but it is definitely possible. You will need a metal bowl as an addition though. Make batter for your favorite cupcakes (we vote for chocolate ones), pour it into metal or silicone cupcake tins, and place them on the hot plate.
Use the metal bowl to cover the cupcakes so that the heat cannot escape. Arm yourself with a lot of patience as baking in this way can take quite a lot of time.
8. Turn The Coffee Maker Into Grilled Cheese Machine
Make a cheese sandwich as usual. Use some aluminum foil to line the hot plate and put the sandwich on it. Wait. When the bread is toasty enough on one side, turn it over. The grilled cheese sandwich will be as crispy as when prepared in a pan.
Once you master the technique, you can further advance your cooking-on-a-coffee-maker skills by moving onto more complicated dishes such as a croque-monsieur or a quesadilla!
9. Poach Fish Or Chicken
Poaching a fish such as a Salmon (or another kind of fish with a similar texture) seems a bit demanding a task for a coffee maker to accomplish- but never say never. It is actually easy to poach fish or chicken this way. Place the fish fillets or chicken breasts into the carafe. Add some olive oil and season to your taste. Finally, run two or three cups of water through the filter.
Brewing a beer in your coffee maker might seem like a distant dream, but it can come true if you invest enough time and effort. Do you dare to try it? We have still not gathered enough courage to do it, but maybe you can do it and tell us all about it.

Warming Up A Baby Bottle
Owning a coffee maker can help you take care of your baby too. If your child likes his/her milk warm, the coffee maker can prove to be quite useful, especially when you go on a vacation and do not have hot water available at all times.
Warm the water in a coffee pot and place the baby bottle in it. After a few minutes, take the baby bottle out, swirl the content and repeat the process at least once more. Make sure that the temperature is right before feeding the bottle to your baby.
